Beastie Boys Sued
HOT 104.com News Desk

Dotmusic.com reports that the Beastie Boys are being sued for $150,000 for a sample that was used on the groundbreaking 'Check Your Head' album in 1992.

Flautist James W Newton alleges that the band used a six-second sample from the track 'Choir' on 'Pass The Mic'.

The suit reportedly acknowledges that at the time the Beasties sought and were given permission to use the sample by Newton's label EMC. However, the publishing rights are owned by Newton and therefore he alone holds the rights to the music.

Amongst those named in the lawsuit are Capitol Records, Grand Royal Records,
Brooklyn Dust Music, Universal Polygram, International Publishing and Mario Caldato, producer of 'Check Your Head'.
