Luther Campbell has had his share of run-ins with the law. As he prepares for the big screen debut of his feature film, Luke's Freak Fest 2000, the would be "black Hugh Hefner" looked back at his legendary freedom of speech battle and the involvement of Vice President Al Gore's wife, Tipper. Mrs. Gore was one of the main forces behind Campbell's problems.
The original southern rap mogul recently said that he expects a low-key Tipper Gore this year and explained what he thinks of this year's presidential race.
"I don't think she'll go out like how she did back in the days when her husband was getting ready to run for president," he said. "My personal opinion about, you know, the whole presidential campaign is that nobody is really speaking from the perspective of us young black and white Americans -- I think, you know, they're speaking from the perspective of individuals who go out and vote. And we all know those are older people who really, you know, have did their thing in today's society and they're not really speaking from the standpoint of us -- the generation, the people that are actually here. You know, and they're not speaking on behalf of us because we don't go out and vote."
Luke's Freak Fest 2000, which centers on a three-day beach party in Miami's South Beach area, will be shown on BET's pay-per-view network in May. The soundtrack, executive produced by Campbell, was released on Loud Records two weeks ago.
