As part of a joint effort between SU Entertainment and Cando Entertainment/Get Lifted Films, the event is geared to showcase the unique skills of New York's finest Street DJs. Promoted as an industry event -- its secondary purpose is to help Hip Hop music listeners become more aware of the DJ's importance in the industry. Throughout the competition, attendees will witness New York's finest juggle beats, scratches and flex their skills which have made New York City mix tapes a hot commodity worldwide.

As with all competitions, there will be one winner who will receive selected DJ equipment and other prizes. Jerry Thompson, President of Strictly Urban Entertainment said, "The amount of support this event is receiving from record labels and artists is astounding. When we first approached a few key industry people, we immediately knew from their reaction that this event was long overdue. We are expecting a good turnout of both industry representatives and Hip Hop supporters alike."

Featuring a line-up of New York DJs, the event will also include performances by MCs. Scheduled to perform are Death Before Dishonor from the HitSquad (w/ Parrish Smith - part of the Def Jam Recordings' group - EPMD) and Club Mecca (reviewed in The Source/Sept. 98 and Rap Sheet/Aug. 98) on Regime Records among others. Walter Bell, President & Senior Director at Get Lifted Films stated, "We are very pleased to work with Strictly Urban Entertainment in translating the importance of this event to film. This is the type of project we work best on and we're proud to be apart of."

Get Lifted Films will be providing production and video services during the competition. The video will be available in DJ and record stores nationwide before the Christmas season. "Its wonderful that we are fulfilling a growing need in the urban music industry. Most of the credit can also go to the sponsors who have turned out to support the event. We will soon provide venues like this in other cities as well," stated Mr. Thompson. SU Entertainment has already begun development of similar DJ Battles in other major cities such as Philadelphia, Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
